Alexandra Makarova

Alexandra Makarova was born in Leningrad in 1986. In 2010 she graduated from
the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire as a choral conductor (class of Boris Abalyan) and in 2016 she completed her postgraduate study at the conservatoire. She currently teaches conducting at the Glinka College. She was a prize winner at the International Jāzeps Vītols Conducing Competition in Riga (2009, 4th prize and Special Prize of the Latvian Radio Chorus), All Russian competition ( 2011, 3rd prize) and the International Boris Tevlin Choral Conducting Competition in Moscow (2014, 1st prize).

She was awarded as a best young conductor at International Choral Competition Markoberdorf (Germany, 2015), and as a best conductor at Florilege Vocal de Tours International Competition (France, 2018). Since 2009 she has directed the Festino chamber choir (St Petersburg). In 2013 she founded the Chamber Choir of Saint-Petersburg Peter the Great Polytechnical University. Alexandra Makarova has also conducted the Student Chorus and Chamber Chorus of the St Petersburg Conservatoire, the Chamber Chorus of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Student Chorus of the Latvian Academy of Music, the Latvian Radio Chorus, the chamber orchestra Camerata Nordica and the chamber choir Lege Artis among other ensembles. Author of several articles about choral music of ST-Petersburg composer Dmitry Smirnov.
